This painting is adapted from photos I took at Yellowstone National Park. It was May, and a late-spring snow began to fall. I was captivated by the way the snow clung to the bison and outlined their muscular backs. They just continued to lazily graze as the snow fell silently on them, as I'm sure they've done for millennia. It was just a great scene to paint. I did a similar painting years ago with just a single bison, but I thought I'd take it a bit further and accentuate the way snow falling tends to wash out the color and definition as things (and animals) recede into the background. Fun stuff to paint.
