I spent a great deal of time on this piece, and I'm really fond of it. For my reference, I used Edward S. Curtis' 1907 photo of a young woman of the Mohave tribe. And yes, the tribal name and the California town are spelled Mohave, while the desert is spelled Mojave. This young lady has such a captivating, somewhat sad gaze, and I've been wanting to capture that in oil paint for years. It's a monochromatic piece--just black, white and Transparent Red Oxide. A joy to paint. Thanks for taking a look.
